My buddy ~DocShaner chose Popeye for this past week's Comic Twart [link] and i thought it would be fun to try him out in my new style. I grew up on Popeye cartoons (especially Popeye the Sailor meets Sinbad the Sailor) so i had a lot of fun with this.

Thanks for the encouragement Evan...AHEM!

Oh and my Popeye eats cans of seaweed, not spinach.

Your style is amazing. I'm in love with your work!! I wonder if there is a chance I could use your art as cover to some notebooks i'm hand-making (it's not a company, just love books). Greets from Argentina! Laura.

Any tips for me? Or can u show me some way to add this nice papery feel to illustrations? thanks :)

The trick to textures is using blending modes on the layers. Multiple layers of the same texture at different blending modes and opacity settings help a lot. Hope this helps!

I scan in old or wrinkled paper of all sorts! Anything can be used as a texture.
