Well yesterday, out of the blue, i got a call from the technical college here in town (i actually got one of my degrees from them) and they were wondering if i would be available to teach a Photoshop class for this spring semester. It's super short notice (classes start next monday) but i decided to take it.

I'm a bit nervous since i've never taught before but i think it will be a really good learning experience for me. It's a Photoshop and PowerPoint class for beginners but i'll mainly be focusing on PS. I've got about 4 days to figure out a lesson plan and get everything in order.

So yeah, if i'm not on here as much it's because i'm grading projects:D

Looking through my deviations, i came across this gem, by ~spundman. This is the kind of piece you keep going back to to soak in every little detail. This makes me want to see a cartoon of Edward with this guy as character designer. How awesome would that be?

If you haven't seen his stuff before, go check it out.

So for our design company, Dismantled, we decided our first big purchase would be a Cintiq 12wx for me. I of course had no objections to this since I've been wanting one since Wacom first unveiled them:D.

While i waited for it to arrive (it came about a week after we ordered it...the wait almost killed me) i browsed a few reviews. I was looking over the comments section of one of them, when i saw someone mention SmudgeGuard and how great a product it was. I Googled it and found this.

After looking over the site a bit i decided to buy one. The creator of the SmudgeGuard, Jeannie Lit, was incredibly nice and responded personally to the purchase. I received the guard in about 3 days which meant i had about 4 days to just wear it around the house and look cool before my Cintiq arrived.

When the Cintiq finally arrived i hooked it all up, put on my SmudgeGuard and decided to break it in with some sketching. Needless to say, it was incredible.

The size of 12wx is perfect for me. I haven't been spoiled by the bigger sized Cintiqs so the screen really didn't seem that small to me. Like all the reviews mention, it comes with a lot of cords but that wasn't really a big issue for me. I had the whole thing spread out on my bed with the Cintiq resting in my lap like a sketchbook and seriously it felt like i WAS drawing in a sketchbook. The texture of the screen is incredibly smooth and with the SmudgeGuard your hand just glides across it.

I don't know what other artists do, but i personally don't think i could work on the Cintiq without the SmudgeGuard, that's how great it is. It's incredibly comfortable and it keeps your screen free of the oils of your hand. This is a huge thing because any oil that gets on the screen creates a bit of resistance whenever the pen hits it. The guard also keeps your hand cool while it's resting on the screen (The Cintiq's screen gets a little warm while you use it...nothing serious but with the guard on you are never bothered by it).

The main thing i love about the Cintiq is how light and portable it is. Most of the reviews i read said how great it was for taking on business trips, but not to the coffee shop for some sketching. I totally disagree with that. I used a laptop backpack, arranged and stuffed the cords (gently) into the pockets, put the Cintiq in the main part, and threw in a tiny adapter that allows me to plug two cords into one outlet(so i didn't have to unlpug the lamp at Caribou).

When i got there i took out the Cintiq and my laptop (which i also got to fit in the bag and it still wasn't that heavy or squashed), unzipped a few of the pockets, plugged it into the wacom box, and the wall outlet, and was up and running in about 5 minutes. All of the cords were still tucked neatly in the backpack pockets the way i had it set up so there weren't cords all over the place. After a few hours, it took less than 5 minutes to pack it all up and leave.

Ok this is getting to be too long so i'll finish this up. If you are a professional artist/designer, find a way to get a 12wx. They are totally worth it and the time this thing saves is unbelievable. I can't imagine working without one now and i've only had it for a little over a week.

*Edit*

So i think i will start taking some coloring commissions. For the first batch it's going to be $35. I'm going to have 10 spots open for this one. This is kind of a test so if it goes well, i'll do another 10 later.

I have to approve your line art first (just to be safe). No complex backgrounds, just 2 characters max for now (i may change that next round). If you want something like the Venture Brothers piece, note me and we can work something out for a higher price.  Payment will be through Paypal.

Also i should mention, it needs to be your own line art(if it's a commission you paid for then i'll accept it).

There are currently 5 spots left.

*End edit*

Would there be any interest if i started doing some coloring commissions in my vintage comic cover/poster style? I thought it might be a nice way to help with the added expenses we've had lately.

It would be something like taking your line art and making an old comic cover or poster out of it (see examples below). I'm not even sure if people even DO coloring commissions but i thought i'd at least throw it out there.

Today was our 1st wedding anniversary as well as the one month mark for our daughter. It's been such a great year, and i can hardly believe it's gone by so fast. They say that the first year is the toughest...if that's true it's going to be smooth sailing from here on out:)

I look forward to the many more years with my wonderful wife, and watching our lil' cutie pie grow.

We now have an incredibly beautiful baby girl (she takes after her mom of course;)).

She was born on monday (c-section) and weighed 6 pounds 9 ounces. Harmony was doing so great with recovery that we got to come home yesterday evening.

It's great to be home and getting into what it's going to be like for awhile now. It's going to be incredible watching her grow, and learn to walk and talk...i can't wait!

Around the late 80's or early 90's, my sister was taking music lessons. The lessons were given at a college and on occasion i would tag along. While she was taking lessons the rest of us would head on over to the library (there was a sweet underground tunnel to the library that i loved taking...unfortunately i've heard the tunnel is no longer open, but instead is now used for storage...bummer).

Anyway, at this college library, I found a book about DC superheroes. It was the greatest book i had ever found and everytime we'd go there i'd run to where it was located and sit down and read it until it was time to go (i think they even let me take it home once, even though i didn't have a library card there).

I'm not even sure i was into comics yet, but i but i knew who batman and superman were of course. But now, all of a sudden there were all these superheroes i had never seen before! It was like finding gold. Thinking back on it now, i have no idea what the name of the book was, and i can only remember a few of the superheroes in it...mainly the Atom. For some reason i vividly remember the Atom's biography from the book.

That's where you come in. I have been scouring google, trying to find this book to no avail. Does anybody remember this book or know where i can find it?! All i can remember about it is that it was a thick book (not a comic) that was all white except for some sort of DC superhero illustration on the cover (most likely of superman, batman and wonder woman with a few like hawkman and the atom in the background). If i had to guess, i'd say it was published in the late 60's, or 70's before Crisis happened although i could be wrong.

So that's it. If anyone can help i would be eternally grateful:D I've got to find that book!
